Questions
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about how we work. Where something isn't finalized yet, we say so instead of making it up.
What types of systems do you work on?
Aquariums, ponds, fountains and residential water features — indoor and outdoor. That includes waterfalls, streams, basins, bubbling rock and disappearing features. If you're not sure what category yours falls into, describe it and we'll tell you.
Do you offer recurring maintenance?
Yes. Recurring service may be available for aquariums, ponds and water features depending on the system and the property. We set the schedule and scope after the initial assessment rather than quoting a frequency before we've seen it.
Can you help with a pond or fountain that hasn't been maintained in years?
That's one of the most common calls we get, and it isn't a problem. Neglected systems usually need a heavier first cleanout and some equipment attention before they can go on a normal schedule. We'll tell you what shape it's actually in after we look at it.
Do you repair pumps and filtration equipment?
Pumps, filtration and flow problems are a core part of what we work on. Whether a specific unit is serviced, repaired or replaced depends on the equipment and its condition, and that's determined during the assessment — not assumed in advance.
Do you work on both indoor aquariums and outdoor water features?
Yes. Indoor tanks and outdoor water are different environments, but both come down to water quality, circulation and equipment that's working properly.
What happens during the initial assessment?
We come out and look at the system: the water, the circulation, the filtration and the equipment. We'll ask what it's been doing, what's changed, and what you'd like it to be. You then get a written recommendation covering what we'd do and in what order. The initial assessment is free.
What areas do you serve?
Wichita, Kansas and the surrounding area. Our exact service radius is still being finalized — if you're outside Wichita proper, ask and we'll give you a straight answer about whether we can reach you.
Do you provide estimates before beginning work?
Yes. You get the scope of work in writing before anything starts, so you know what's included and what isn't. If we find something that falls outside that scope once we're into the job, we come back to you for approval before doing it.
What does service cost?
We aren't publishing pricing yet, and we'd rather not post numbers that don't apply to your system. Size, condition, access and equipment all change the work. Pricing comes with the written recommendation after the free assessment.
Do you sell fish, plants or equipment?
We're a service company, not a retail store. If your system needs parts or equipment as part of the work, that's handled within the job rather than over a counter.
What is the founding customer special?
Rock & River Aquatics is new, and we're taking on our first customers in the Wichita area now. Founding customers start with a free initial assessment of their system. There's no catch attached to it and no obligation to book work afterward.
Didn't find your question? Send it over with a short description of your system. We'll answer it directly — and if the answer is "we don't know yet," we'll say that too.
